Exclusive Interview with Ashley Wineland
Why country music ?
~ Country music is the singing voice of life. It tells stories, connects us all through these stories because we can all relate to it. I love country music because I am a firm believer that we all grow and love through our connections to one another.
If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ I think a duet between Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton would be a unique gift for all of us.
What song (that you've recorded) means the most to you and why?
~ 'Red White and Blue' because it was my first song I ever wrote and knowing that it has been such a beautiful catalyst for change and positive impact in the lives our nation's veterans and their families is something truly special.
Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ I would love to do a song by Dolly Parton. She's my idol.
What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ Something people are usually surprised about is that I attended public school K-12. I built the foundation of my career while going to high school full-time and having extracurricular activities. I'm also pursuing a degree in Film and Media Studies via ASU Online. Education is extremely important to me.
Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ I'm going to refrain from answering this question because I wouldn't want anyone to say that about my music. Also, if a song has made it to radio and is played so much that it has the potential to be annoying, then I say kudos to the artist because it takes a lot of work to get a song that much airplay.
What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and...you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ I always think it's important to talk about how much work goes into being a singer as your career. There's a lot that comes along with it that the majority of people don't know about and I think it's important for people to hear about the process of making music -- that it takes days/weeks/months of work to get a song and album done. And there's also the physical toll this takes because you are working crazy hours...and the emotional because you're bearing a piece of yourself for everyone to listen to and criticize.
Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ I think the ultimate recording studio has a nice singing booth with a relaxing vibe and also no way for the producer or other engineers to watch you as you sing.
Johnny or June ?
~ June...because you have to be a strong woman to keep up with Cash.
Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any "rituals" to calm you nerves.
~ Nerves aren't really a part of my show days anymore. I am strong in my faith about my show and trusting that all the work the band and I have put in will fall through beautifully.
What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ There really isn't a definite moment. Honestly, the most memorable moments come from meeting my fans in person and being able to hear those extremely lovely comments they leave me on social media in person and put a face to the name.
