Why country music ?
~ I was raised on country music, and I was so passionate about it from the beginning that I never even thought about any other genre. It’s a part of who I am. I enjoy writing and performing songs that tell a story the audience can relate to.

Tell us a little bit about your life, and how you came to Nashville, Tennessee?
~ I left school for Nashville when I was 15. I grew up singing in bars and honky tonks, and practically living in a hotel room in downtown Nashville. I tell more of my story in the first webisode of my new web series, Candi Land. http://youtu.be/RkjDAGf0Lng

What made you decide to start a web series on YouTube?
~ Over a year ago I began working on a promotional EPK and music video project with talented director, Justine Feldt of Film Fatale Pictures. Justine and the crew followed me all over the country filming shows, interviews and recording sessions. We decided to put together a web series using the footage we had to give people a taste of what it’s like to start a new career in country music. You can view the series at: http://www.youtube.com/candicarpenter

Are the Internet and social media a blessing or a curse for artists and tell us why?
~ I think both. The internet and social media provide artists like myself with the opportunity to connect with our fans like never before. We are able to stay in touch, and release new material immediately, which is wonderful. I do sometimes think that it takes a little bit of the mystery out of things. I wonder how diligent Johnny Cash or Waylon Jennings would have been about keeping their Facebook status up to date. Lol. Ultimately though, I think it’s a great thing.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Hank Williams and Johnny Cash performing “Men With Broken Hearts.”

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ “Tortured Child.” It’s the most autobiographical song I’ve ever been a part of. I co-wrote it with my friend Shayne Fair, and the lyrics just fell out of the air. The song is featured in my new EPK. http://youtu.be/ANMC78ubuxw

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ I love this question! I’ve spent my whole life learning from, and looking up to so many different writers that it’s hard to choose just one. I would love to write a song with Jimmy Webb. His artistry is an inspiration to me.

Whisky wine beer or water?
~ Definitely coffee.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ That’s really hard to say, because I think I’ve been asked just about everything. Most of the things I haven’t been asked are probably things I wouldn’t want to answer, lol.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ Low lighting and a Korby microphone. I really like recording at CURB Recording Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. With Craig White engineering the session, I know I’m in good hands.

Johnny or June ?
~ I am heavily influenced by Johnny Cash’s music and style, but out of respect for Johnny I’ll go with June. I think he would have wanted that.

If you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be?
~ That’s a tough one. I guess I’d do every woman in the world a favor and try to keep Eve from taking a bite out of that apple.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ The most memorable day in my musical career took place at a Vince Gill concert when I was in the sixth grade. I wrote a note on the back of a ticket stub asking him, “Can I yodel for you?” He graciously took the note and read it. He started laughing, and brought me up on stage to sing. The size of the crowd, and the bright lights took my breath away. I remember wanting to feel that rush again, and making the decision to become a professional entertainer. He’ll never know how much he encouraged me that night.
