About DuShane Band

  • Interview date: March 3, 2018

  • Country: USA (Manhattan. New York)

Why country music ?
~ Because it’s about stories, country music is all about stories, i’ve been through a lot in my life, lots of highs and lows, always been a blue collar guy, it’s what I know the most about. I love the country music sound, I love pedal steel and acoustic instruments like Banjos and Violins and guitars, when the three are combined there ain’t nothing sweeter, that is classic country.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ I would say Patsy Cline, but I would be to starstruck if I ever met her. So, Reba McEntire or Gretchen Wilson would be great, if it was a love song it would be Reba, if it had balls it’s Gretchen no doubt.

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ “When I Walk Out”, after a short Marriage and bitter divorce that was the first song I was able to write again. The song was about meeting someone unexpecting after being in the dumps for a year and thinking, does she like me or is she just being kind ? So you catch her looking at you while your walking away from a reflection, sense ( I’ll be in heaven if your looking while i’ll walk out).

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Probably Joe Walsh or Brad Paisley

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I’ve been playing Ice hockey and Music my entire life, I’ve been a NY Ranger fan since I was 5 yrs old. A secret dream of mine is to one day sing the National Anthem at the Madison Square Garden.

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ I don’t know if I dislike any country music, but most recently, “Remind Me” by brad paisley, That song was big around my divorce and use to bring me to tears

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ This is a hard one but maybe this is something:
How do you come up with a DuShane song?
It starts with humming, and Lucy. Lucy (my old acoustic guitar) plays the chords when I pick her up, start humming then a melody, start thinking about the beat, the guitars, violin, bass, and what I was thinking about the last week, what my friend was telling me about his wife, the better days I had and what went on, or the times I said – how did I get myself in this mess. Or the many times I always hear – gee I’ve never seen that happen before which makes for a funny story.

How would you like to spend a day with your significant each other, when you were not allowed to make music or to talk about music?
~ That’s hard cause I am always playing/making music or watching or playing hockey. When neither of those are happening I like to do short 3 day trips down the Jersey Shore or upstate NY. I love to run long distances outdoors, I like exploring old towns, romantic little nooks for a little BnB. Trying out new restaurants and movies, Love the beach and quiet times in the sun.

Johnny or June ?
~ Love them both, one was the rhyme and the other the reason, they were ying and yang. She inspired him and he loved her above all. I can totally relate to him as a singer and writer.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I don’t think I get nervous anymore, I have this checklist before each show that I go through and try to get each one done so it goes well. I do drink raw honey though and a 30 min vocal warm up and a bunch of scales on the guitar.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ Opened up for Guns and Roses one show and Axle through the mic down and walked off, I was tempted to pick it up cause the band was jamming a blues riff in E. It sounded like you shook me, so I picked up the mic and sang the song with the band and it was magic. And a close second was when I was a kid, we were looking at recording at Kiva studios in Memphis so we went down there to check it out, we were told to wait till the band gets done before looking at the room, I met the guitar player at that session and he was explaining to me why he had chicken wire around his amp, didn’t know it was Stevie Ray Vaughan until he introduced himself.
