Exclusive Interview with Kenyon Lockry

Kenyon LockryWhy country music ?
~ It's in my blood I guess. I learned it first from my Grandpaw. He introduced me to his hero's, and maybe that's why I'm a little old school.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Not sure how it would turn out, but I'd sure love to hear Hank Williams Sr sing with Jimmie Rodgers.

What is the most important thing Mel Tillis did learn you.
~ I'd say showmanship. If he hadn't taught me how to respect the audience, it's hard to say if I would have ever learned as it's a dying art. It's not to difficult, just dressing nice and letting them know how truly thankful you are to them.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Mel Tillis

Whisky wine beer or water?
~ I'd say a fine wine is about tops, but I like it all in moderation.

If you could turn back time to make only one change, what would you change?
~ For years I had a narrow idea that "new country" is terrible. I have a new mind set now. It's just different then what I like, and I respect the people that are making it.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and...you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ Did you always sing country music? No, I had a rock band in high school!

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any "rituals" to calm you nerves .
~ Once in a while, but it usually fades during the first song. I just let 'er rip.

Johnny or June ?
~ Oh man! Thats's tough. I guess Johnny because he has influenced me so greatly.

You performed with many famous country artists. Who made the biggest impression on you when you met him or her in person.
~ Little Jimmy Dickens. I spent 3 days with him at an event years ago. He is about the last living hillbilly singer. He's a treasure.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ Singing at the Grand Ole Opry. It was a dream come true, and it's the top of the universe for a singer like me.
