Matt Gary
Why is the country music genre, your genre of choice to perform?
~ Country Music, for the most part, tells a great story; when we listen to a country song, I think we connect it to our life or experiences. The lyrics make us feel like… “I’ve lived that!”
What song (that you've recorded) means the most to you and why?
~ It would have to be “I’m Just Sayin’” – I’ve lived that song, and every time I perform it, I can feel my emotions stir up again.
What song do you wish you had recorded and why?
~ Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying” fits me to a tee. Enjoy life. Take a risk. As I always say, “Go Big or Go Home!”
Who would you like to collaborate with or what renowned songwriter would you like to write a song especially for you?
~ I’ve said this since day one, and I’m going to make it happen; someday, I would like to collaborate with Carrie Underwood on a duet, and its not all about the way she looks either-(lol)– the girl can sing. As far as a song, I would like Craig Wiseman to write a song specifically for me. That dude has his finger right on the pulse when it comes to writing hit songs.
Who is your personal favorite recording artist and why?
~ Kenny Chesney—he is a great storyteller and entertainer. He records all-around feel-good songs.
Whiskey? Wine? Beer? Soft drink? Milk or Water? What is your favorite beverage of choice? (Include name and why)
~ Three of the above: Wine (a good Pinot Noir), Beer (Bud Light), Soft Drink: (Coke-a-Cola Classic--a fountain coke, its my weakness.)
Describe the ultimate performance/stage and why you would like to perform there.
~ The same stage as every country artist dreams to perform on, the Opry stage. To stand in the circle, where so many of the greats have before, would be a lifetime, unforgettable experience.
What are your top favorite 3 songs of all time (any genre).
~ I don’t really have an all-time favorite song; my favorites change weekly from Country to Rap (yeah, I said “Rap.”) I guess, you could say I’m a fair weather fan.
What song or recording artists, as a teenager, do you hate to admit (now) that you actually liked?
~ I really liked Kriss Kross’ “Make You Jump” in elementary school. Who didn’t?
Looking back at high school, what is the one thing you would change or like to forget?
~ That’s a long list. I never really got in big trouble, but, I definitely liked to see what I could get away with!
Do you have an "ick" food? (What is it and why?)
~ I’m not a big fan of Fish; love to catch them, but not as a meal. I don’t like to eat anything that eyes and tentacles.
What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ That I’m a rock climber!
