About Tenille Townes
Why country music ?
~ I love the storytelling anchor in country music. It’s the music I listened to around the kitchen with my family growing up and is very much a part of the identity of the people in northern Alberta!
If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ I think Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers are my favorite country duet representers!
What song (that you’ve recorded) means the most to you and why?
~ A lot of the songs that I write based on the stories of people I meet or observe mean a lot to me because they make me think of those people every time I sing them. Jersey on the Wall is one of those songs for me that represents a group of people I met from a very small town who had just been through an accident with five kids from the high school, one of which passed away. Around the same time one of my best friends lost her little brother and it put me in an emotional place to be able to step into this concept and be honest with the questions I was asking.
Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Patty Griffin.
What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I love a good game of cribbage. I play it with my grandfather a lot and we both get pretty competitive with!!
Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ Anywhere that feels as comfy as a living room is inspiring to me. The more intimate and cozy the space, the more at home I feel! Any place with legendary music history would be a dream spot too!
Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I think a dance party can cure any nerves ha! I usually like to say a little prayer, take a breath and feel good to go!
What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ The day my dad and I arrived from our 45 hour drive from my hometown to Nashville was pretty special. I’ll never forget the feeling of showing up in this new city far from home, dreaming about all the music I wanted to make. It marked a new beginning for me and I’m so grateful to be here.
