Wynonna to headline 25th anniversary music city July 4th spectacular.
May 27, 2009
Free concert and fireworks extravaganza scheduled for Riverfront Park

NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville will once again celebrate July 4th like only the Music City can – with great music and one of the nation’s best fireworks displays! Country music superstar Wynonna will headline the 25th anniversary of the “Music City July 4th: Let Freedom Sing!” celebration in Riverfront Park. The show line-up will also include The Gabe Dixon Band, the Grammy-winning Nashville Symphony Orchestra (NSO) and Nashville actor Barry Scott. The world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers will perform the national anthem.

“Singing with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra?  My favorite. Being in Nashville for the July 4th weekend with my family to celebrate the South’s largest fireworks display? Even better. Using my gift to encourage and inspire others during this tough economic time?  My purpose. This event is the total package for me and I’m going to sing it like nobody’s business,” said Wynonna.

Downtown festivities will begin at noon with the free Family Fun Zone featuring inflatables for all ages, sponsored by Coca-Cola. Pre-show live music will take place from 3 - 6 p.m. on the NowPlayingNashville.com stage. The official two-hour concert will kick off at 7 p.m. CST and will conclude with the South's largest fireworks show at approximately 9:10 p.m. arranged by Pyro Shows and choreographed to music by the NSO. All events are free and open to the public.

“Only in Nashville can friends and family spend the 4th of July at a free concert with a neighbor, who happens to be a multi-platinum, ground-breaking superstar like Wynonna,” said Mayor Karl Dean. “Independence Day is about joining together in celebration of our freedoms and our country, and at the riverfront in downtown Nashville it’s also about celebrating Music City.”

“Nashville’s July 4th celebration is one of the city’s biggest events each year,” said Butch Spyridon, president, Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau.  “The celebration has become a tradition for locals and a must-see for visitors, drawing approximately 100,000 people into our downtown each year.”

"Music City July 4th : Let Freedom Sing!" is produced by the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau for the City of Nashville and sponsored by the City of Nashville, Metro Parks, 103 WKDF, 104.5 The Zone, Camper’s Corner, Coca-Cola and NowPlayingNashville.com.

The Wreckers' Jessica Harp to Release Solo Album Summer 2009
April 29, 2009

Best known for her collaboration with Michelle Branch in the country duo The Wreckers, Warner Nashville is proud to release Jessica Harp’s first solo album A Woman Needs this summer, with her album single “Boy Like Me” already climbing the charts. This week, the pop-country singer secured the iTunes Video of the Week spot for “Boy Like Me,” which fans can download for free from the site.

In June 2004, aspiring country singer Jessica Harp packed everything into her car and left her Kansas City, MO, hometown for Tennessee to finalize a recording contract with Nashville indie-label Dualtone Music Group. Fate intervened when her best friend Michelle Branch called somewhere along the way and asked her to form a country/pop duo, which the girls dubbed The Wreckers. A No. 1 country single, a gold album, a Grammy-Award nomination, and high-profile tours with Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban followed, but Harp could never shake the feeling of wanting to show the world what she could do on her own.

Now she finally has that chance with the upcoming release of her major-label solo debut A Woman Needs — a breezy modern-country collection that finds the honey-voiced Harp telling appealingly relatable stories about her life, loves, and heartbreaks on tracks like the playful “Boy Like Me,” the feisty “A Woman Needs,” and the earthy “Homemade Love.” “Country music is about real people and real things, and that always spoke to me not only as a music fan, but as a singer-songwriter,” Harp says. “I like to tell stories with my songs. This is the album I have dreamed of making since I was eight years old and singing along to my mom’s Judds and Reba McEntire records.”

While The Wreckers were touring with Keith Urban in the summer of 2007, Harp had begun writing songs on her own. She befriended Urban’s bass player, Jerry Flowers, who, in addition to being a musician, is also a singer, producer, and songwriter. Flowers wound up co-writing several tracks on A Woman Needs, including the title track, “Break-Up Song,” and “More To This Than You,” as well as producing the album.

One thing Harp and Flowers knew going in to make A Woman Needs is that they wanted the album to be fun and upbeat. “That was another lesson I learned during my crash course with The Wreckers,” Harp says. “Aside from the singles, Stand Still, Look Pretty is a sad album, and we would play hour-long sets at these big fairs and festivals where people just wanted to dance and have a good time. So I was thinking about touring and playing the songs live when we recorded the album. But I think there’s something for everyone here.”

BILLY RAY CYRUS TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM, "BACK TO TENNESSEE," ON APRIL 7 FEATURING HIT TITLE TRACK AND DUET WITH DAUGHTER, MILEY CYRUS

Nashville, TN- Pushing deeper into his rock and country music roots, Billy Ray Cyrus is set to release Back to Tennessee, his newest CD for Walt Disney Records/Lyric Street Records. The album features 12 new tracks, including "Butterfly Fly Away" a moving duet between Billy Ray and his daughter, Miley Cyrus, from the upcoming film "Hannah Montana The Movie," which opens April 10. Back to Tennessee arrives in stores April 7. Cyrus will perform the hit debut single, "Back to Tennessee" on "Good Morning America" on April 8; "Regis and Kelly" also on April 8; and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on April 13.

Produced by Mark Bright (Rascal Flatts), the new album celebrates love of home, family and good old fashioned fun. "This album is everything I am at this second," says Cyrus. "It's everything that I've been through and every step along the way to this point. Ironically, sometimes looking back -- in my case, ‘Back to Tennessee' – is the best way to move forward." Songs include: "Back to Tennessee," "Thrillbilly," "He's Mine," "Somebody Said a Prayer," "A Good Day," "I Could Be The One," "Like Nothing Else," "Country as Country Can Be," "Love is the Lesson," "Give it to Somebody," "Real Gone" and the Glen Ballard-produced "Butterfly Fly Away."

Said producer Mark Bright, "Billy has such a love of family and love of life. This album reveals who Billy is, from the really traditional music to the driving rock-influenced songs to those songs we want to hear on the radio." Added "Butterfly Fly Away" producer Glen Ballard, "I get chills when I hear Billy Ray and Miley sing. I cherish the privilege to help celebrate the beauty of a father and a daughter's relationship through this song and movie."

Billy Ray Cyrus broke through in 1992 with the 9x-platinum smash hit album "Some Gave All. Since then, he went on to sell more than 25 million albums worldwide, and earned nearly thirty chart singles, including 15 Top 40 charts hits. At the same time he established himself as a successful actor in film and television, first as the title character in the syndicated drama "Doc," then alongside his daughter Miley in the hit Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana." Cyrus' most recent album -- 2007's "Home At Last" -- entered in the Top 20 on the Billboard Top 200, hitting #3 on the Top Country Album chart, while "Ready, Set, Don't Go," a duet with daughter Miley, became a Top 5 country smash.

Bad Magick: The Best of Shooter Jennings & The .357′S
March 11, 2009

“Best Of” Compilation Features 13 Fan Favorites and Two New Tracks Never Before Released on CD

On Tuesday, March 24 Universal Records South will release Bad Magick: The Best of Shooter Jennings and the .357’s, an all encompassing listening experience of 13 fan favorites from Shooter Jennings’ last four albums, plus two tracks never before released on CD.

Bad Magick is an album for all Shooter fans, whether this is their first album or whether they’ve been with him from his beginnings.  Ten of the album’s tracks were written or co-written by the singer.  The collection offers a little bit of everything and represents what his music is all about

Born the son of a country outlaw, Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, Shooter gravitated towards the rock n’ roll music scene at an early age, but after his father’s death realized the legendary Jennings had never heard him sing a country song apart from one home recording session at a young age.  Shooter moved to Music City three years later with his band, the .357’s. Together, in just a few short years, they released four country albums with a signature rock flare that drew an immediate fan base of all ages.

Combining a blend of country, blues and rock ‘n’ roll, Shooter Jennings has developed his own unique style of music, not shadowing in his famous father’s footsteps.

“I sound like myself,” explains Shooter. “I guess that comes from finally doing what I want, even though I’m embracing my heritage, too.  That’s important in country music.”

In his five years as a country music artist, Shooter has had much success similar to those who have orked decades to achieve.  From performing in the small club scene to playing for thousands at festivals such as Bonnaroo and Stagecoach, he has also made the late night talk show rounds with performances on the Late Show with David Lettermen, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and Last Call with Carson Daly.

In conjunction with the release of the album, fans can catch Shooter’s collaboration with Jamey Johnson on CMT Crossroads which premieres March 23 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.  He will also be hitting the road in late spring for an extensive tour hitting many of the top markets across the U.S.

Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus make chart history
March 10, 2009

Nashville, TN- This week, Miley Cyrus debuts with "The Climb" (Walt Disney/Hollywood/Lyric Street) at No. 48 and father Billy Ray bows with "Back to Tennessee" (Walt Disney/Lyric Street) at No. 59 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. Both songs will appear on the Walt Disney Records soundtrack, due March 24 and in the Walt Disney Pictures film, "Hannah Montana The Movie," which opens nationwide in theaters April 10. Back To Tennessee is also the title track of Cyrus's upcoming CD, which will be released on April 7. This marks the first time in nearly twenty years that a father and daughter have appeared on the chart with separate solo singles. (Johnny and Rosanne Cash had separate singles on October 5, 1990.)

"The Climb" (Walt Disney/Hollywood/Lyric Street) has been added to over 140 stations in 4 formats of radio in just 3 weeks, making it one of the most quickly added records of the year. It has hit the Top 30 on the Top 40 radio charts and is climbing rapidly at country and Hot AC formats.

After a string of hit songs at country radio and the recent top five smash "Ready, Set, Don't Go," Billy Ray Cyrus's latest effort "Back To Tennessee" is climbing the country radio charts. Produced by Mark Bright (Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood), the album features 12 new tracks. Billy Ray co-wrote two of the tracks on the new project. In addition, country powerhouse writers Jeffrey Steele, Neil Thrasher, Craig Wiseman, Rivers Rutherford, Blair Daly, Troy Verges and Casey Beathard all contribute tunes to the new record.

A musical highpoint in "Hannah Montana The Movie," Billy Ray (as his character Robby Ray Stewart) performs "Back To Tennessee." Written by Cyrus, Tamara Dunn and Matthew Wilder, it is inspired by Billy Ray's longing to return to his roots and breathe the sweet southern air of his home state.

Back To Tennessee will also contain a special extended version (4:44) of the father/daughter duet "Butterfly, Fly Away," which was produced by Glen Ballard. A 3:11 version of the duet appears in the film and on the soundtrack.

JOHNNY CASH REMIXED

JOHNNY CASH REMIXED CD AND DVD DOCUMENTARY SET FOR JANUARY 27 RELEASE ON COMPADRE RECORDS

Click here to win a Sun Records guitar
Click here for the making-of documentary podcast

(Houston, TX)
Compadre Records/Music World Music has announced the release of JOHNNY CASH REMIXED, featuring bold new interpretations of Johnny Cash classics from top music remixers and producers who were recruited to take the original master recordings and infuse them with the sounds and technology of modern music styles such as hip hop and dance music. The album, which includes a performance from Snoop Dogg, will be available in stores and online on January 27. A vinyl deluxe-edition will be available on September 23 in select independent record stores.
Johnny Cash Remixed is a tribute to the legacy of an American music icon whose work has touched every contemporary genre, and has the blessing and support of the custodians of Johnny Cash's legacy.
"My father made his stead by defying the expected and accepted way of things" says John Carter Cash son of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash and Executive Producer of the Academy Award(c)-winning film, Walk the Line. "He set the standard at the same time. He would have loved this remix record. While it stays true to the original recordings, this CD touches on undiscovered ground. This is what my father was about: staying true to tradition while creating groundbreaking new music."
Johnny Cash classics were licensed from Cash's first record label, the legendary Sun Records, also the first record label home of luminaries such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison. The original tracks, recorded with Cash's first band the Tennessee Two from 1956-1959, were pure and stark, with only the essentials; guitar, light percussion and Johnny Cash's unmistakable voice and presence. The new mixes maintain this fantastic charm and personality while filing out the sound and creating daring re-interpretations.
The remixed tracks (and remixers) include "I Walk The Line" featuring Snoop Dogg (QDT, the new production team led by Snoop Dogg – featuring Snoop, Teddy Riley and DJ Quik), "Country Boy" (Sonny J, whose album was released in August on Astralwerks US), "Get Rhythm" (Philip Steir, the only remixer allowed to work with the Reprise Records Frank Sinatra collection), "Leave that Junk Alone" (Alabama 3, creators of The Sopranos theme song), "Folsom Prison Blues" (the legendary Pete Rock), "Hey Porter" (Mocean Worker, whose remix of Elvis Presley's "Burnin' Love" was used as a soundtrack to Honda's Superbowl TV commercial), "Sugartime" (Kennedy, cornerstone of the new UK Dirty Pop movement), “Trail To Mexico” (indie favorite Mexican Institute of Sound/MIS), "Doin' My Time" (The Heavy, critically-acclaimed UK-based band) and "Wide Open Road" (Count de Money) among others.
A documentary following the making will be included with the album, and was produced by Phear Creative in NYC. This short film features interviews from select remixers, filmed in their home studios, including Snoop Dogg captured at the Cash Recording Cabin in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Johnny Cash Remixed is Executive Produced by John Carter Cash, Snoop Dogg, and Mathew Knowles for Music World Productions, Inc. and Co-Executive Produced by Brad Turcotte for Compadre Records/Music World Music and Gregg DeMammos for DeMammos Entertainment.
