Exclusive Interview with Angela Dodson

About Angela Dodson

Why country music ?
~ Country music is what I grew up listening to. My favorite songs as a child
were sung by Hank Williams and Johnny Horton. Country music has always been
a part of me.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Some of the best duets have already been done. Johnny Cash did amazing
collaborations with Waylon Jennings, June Carter (of course), and even Bob
Dylan. Tammy and George, Loretta and Conway…how can you top that? More
recently, I loved the duet Brad Paisley did with Dolly Parton on "When I Get
Where I’m Going..

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ A song I wrote about Johnny Cash called "They Called Him Cash." It’s the
first song I ever wrote and then had fully recorded. When you hear
something that was a little melody in your head and a few lines scrawled on
a piece of paper come to life with drums, guitar, and so on…well, that’s a
feeling you just don’t ever forget!

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ One of the greats. I could just imagine Johnny Cash (were he still around), Kris Kristopheron or Willie Nelson wrote a song writing a song for me…or even better, getting to co-write a song with
one of them!

Whisky wine beer or water?
~ Whiskey! Preferably Jack Daniels.

What is the question interviewers never asked you while you were always hoping they would. (and give us your answer)?
~ Wow…this is a tough one! I’m not sure I have a question I’ve always wanted
to be asked. One of my favorites, however, is, "Where is the strangest place
you’ve ever performed?" because as an indie artist, you tend to play some
strange places over the years.
Two of my oddest performances occurred when I was teenager singing in
Central PA. I remember singing at a grocery store while a guy in a giant
cigarette costume walked around handing out pamphlets on why people should
stop smoking! Also, I performed at a shooting range for a Harley
Convention. I had to try and sing over gun shots ringing out and motors
revving!

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ The best recording studios are the ones with friendly atmospheres and
top-notch engineers and musicians. They don’t necessary have to be the most
extravagant facilities.

Johnny or June ?
~ Definitely Johnny. As I’m sure you’ve already gathered, I’m a big Cash fan.
He has been my biggest musical inspiration and the reason is simple: Johnny
always sang every song like he meant it. Likewise, I try to convey some sort of meaning/feeling
when I sing and when I write songs.

Give us your top 3 country songs ever.
~ The all-time best country song in my book is Hank William’s I’m So Lonesome
I Could Cry. It gives me chills every time, without fail. Also, Johnny Cash’s
Folsom Prison Blues and Patsy Cline’s Crazy.

We love to bring our readers exclusive skoops, so what would you like to share with us ?
~ That I am currently working on a new EP, so please keep checking back to the
website (www.angeladodson.net) for the latest info! And if ya’ll are in Nashville, TN, come out to a show and see me!
