Why country music ?
~ I grew up in North Georgia, and country music is in my blood. I’ve never felt a connection to another type of music like I have country, so for me there was never any question that this is the genre I would write and record in. There’s just something so powerful about it, melodically, instrumentally, and lyrically, and I love getting to follow in the tradition of the country storytellers who came before us.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Dolly Parton and Glen Campbell.

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ “Single Again” from the new record is so representative of where I am in my life right now — it’s kind of my anthem for myself — and it’s such a good reminder to stay positive even when I get a little lonely! I think it’s really going to resonate with a lot of people (girls in particular) who are in the same boat of waiting for the right person to come along.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Hillary Lindsey.

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ My day job is actually working as a Management and Program Analyst at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)! It’s a decent “Plan B” if music doesn’t work out 🙂

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ “Tin Man” by Miranda Lambert. The lyrics and her delivery are so powerful that it physically makes my heart ache to hear it. I have to emotionally prepare myself for that much incredibleness before I listen, so hearing it on the radio in the car is tough! I don’t want to be emotionally assaulted (in the best way) anymore!

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ No one ever asks who helped get me to where I am today. I’ve been blessed to have so many people, from musicians, to producers, to managers, to friends and family, who have supported me and stuck their necks out for me time and time again, and I really owe a huge part of any current and future success to all of them.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ Any building that looks like a cabin (or better yet, IS a cabin!) makes me feel really creative and cozy, so I’d pick something in that vein for my dream studio! It’d have giant dead rooms with enough space for a full band and grand pianos, and there would be vocal booths with string lights and big windows that looked out onto the band. And we could record digitally OR straight to tape, which would be super cool!

Johnny or June ?
~ Cool question! I’d say June, hands down. She had such a cool and collected, yet fun, presence on stage, and her delivery was always so straightforward. She stayed true to her style and didn’t bother trying to spice up performances with vocal runs or anything like that, even when it became more of the norm. I could listen to her all day!

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I don’t get too terribly nervous anymore, but I’ll generally say a quick prayer before I jump on stage and then just remind myself to really sing with feeling!

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ The day we shot my music video for “White Trash” was absolutely surreal. Seeing the set and the wardrobe and knowing that all of the crew and extras were there just to bring something to life that started as a quirky idea in my head was really humbling. I’ll never forget the moment I realized “they’re all here for me” and felt the sense of accomplishment that went along with that thought.
