Exclusive Interview with Cody Webb

Cody Webb

About Cody Webb

Why country music ?
~ I fell in love with country music when I started listening to Eric Church in college. Growing up I listened to alot of older country, but mostly southern rock. I styled my guitar playing after Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, and many more of the old southern rock bands. The more I got into songwriting, the more I realized that I wanted to write and sing country music because it says and means so much. To this day I listen to and enjoy all kinds of music! I never want to put myself in a box as an artist or writer.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Hank Williams and Hank Williams Jr.!

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ Tough questions here! I’m gonna go with my latest single “More Than a Little”. My cowriter and I just worked long and hard on it and it was really cool to see it come together like it did. Ended up totally different than expected. If I can slightly change the question… A song that means a whole lot to me is one I wrote about my grandpa called “A Life Like That”. I wrote it right after he passed a little over a year ago and I hope to record it on my next project.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ I love singing my own songs, but I never want to judge a song by the writer. A great song is a great song and I like to think the writer wouldn’t influence me one way or another. However, I admire Eric Church’s style of writing.

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I had a really really cool mullet (haircut) in elementary school! Ha!

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ Humble and Kind by Tim McGraw… Because it’s soooooooo good!!!! and I wish I had written it. haha

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ Them: What do you want to be when you grow up? Me: I don’t want to grow up.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ All of the studios I’ve recorded in here in Nashville have been great! To me it’s more the engineer, producer, and musicians that make the magic rather than the room. But it’s always good when they have good snacks!

Johnny or June ?
~ Come on! You can’t make choose stuff like this! I’m definitely a little more familiar with Johnny’s music though.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.

~ I definitely do still get nervous at times! It’s not a bad nervous just excited and ready to play usually. I say a prayer and do vocal warmups!

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ It’s not hard to remember because it just happened last week. I just played my first showcase in Nashville with my band and played in front of some of the top executives in the music industry. This is something I’ve been working towards for a long long time and it was so surreal and cool when it actually happened.
