Why country music ?
~ Country music is all about honesty. Every lyric comes from the heart and I believe that people relate to country music more than any other genre.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Man, what a great question! Elvis Presley and Garth Brooks would make a pretty incredible duet. Both legendary performers, each have amazing songs and they are both iconic in every sense of the word.

What song (that you’ve recorded) means the most to you and why?
~ The song that I’ve recorded that means the most to me would be the title track of my debut record called “My Boots”. It was the only song on the record that I wrote by myself and it comes from a very personal place. The song talks about what my life was like growing up and all the people that helped shape me into the man I am today.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ There are so many great songwriters in Nashville but Craig Wiseman would have to be on top of my list! This man is extremely talented and he has written some of my favourite songs including “The Good Stuff” by Kenny Chesney and “Live Like You Were Dying” by Tim McGraw. His storytelling absolutely blows me away!

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ Some readers would be surprised to know that I used to play competitive hockey for over 12 years growing up in Canada! I spent many days and nights playing at the rink. I absolutely love the game.

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ Haha you know I cant answer this one! There are definitely a few songs I dislike more than others but everyone can relate to that.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ I’ve never been asked, “Who out of your family sparked your musical passion?” and I’ve always wanted to answer it for a while now. The answer to the question is my Granddad. He started my love for music when I was two years old and he first played “Penny Lane” by the Beatles on the record player. From that moment on I knew that I loved music. This is still one of the most special memories I have and what kick started my passion for music.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ I’ve been lucky to record in studios throughout my life that have so much history and those are always special! I’ve been lucky to record in great sounding rooms with awesome acoustics, which always helps. But for me, the ultimate recording studio is one where the artist is most comfortable.

Johnny or June ?
~ I’d have to go with Johnny as I grew up listening to him. My parents would constantly play “Ring of Fire” and “Jackson” – two songs that I absolutely loved. He had such a true country sound that distinguished him from the crowd. He was the man!

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I wouldn’t say I get nervous. I feel like I’ve been performing for so long (packed a lot into my 20 years). But I do have a few pre-show rituals. I usually like to go over the set list with the band, have a toast and do a chant. My band is my family and I am so lucky to have them up on stage with me.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ The most memorable day in my music career would have to be when I released my first ever EP. It was the first time people had a chance to buy and listen to my music and hear my stories. For me, all I want is for my songs to connect with people and to be heard by audiences – and the day I released my first EP was the first time all that happened. It is a day I’ll never forget.
