Exclusive Interview with Dallas Remington

Dallas Remington

About Dallas Remington

Why country music ?
~ I am a fourth generation Kentucky farm girl; country living and music is my roots. It’s my way of life.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ To me, Conway and Loretta are the ultimate duo; I loved their sound together and it would be awesome to hear just one more song from them.

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ The tune “Learn To Fly” (featured on my upcoming EP) is the most meaningful to me. The storyline is about a girl prepared to leave her home, spread her wings and fly. It’s a song I feel everyone, adults and children, have lived or can relate to.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ I’d enjoy the pleasure to write with Chris Stapleton; I absolutely love his music and his ability to combine blues, country and rock sounds.

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I think folks would be surprised to know that I used to be a bassist in a metal band.

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ I can’t think of one right now, but I’m not a fan of hearing fake instruments in a country music production.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ “Who motivated you to start pursuing music?” …and the answer would be: My grandmother. “Mapa” motivated me to start taking vocal lessons at our local Opry. She’ been beside me every step of the way, from helping take me to voice lessons, to sharing my music with her friends, and even selling merch at my shows. My Mapa is amazing. She’s always been one of my biggest fans and cheerleader. I don’t know if I would be where I am if she hadn’t insisted I start taking those lessons.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ My dream studio is a studio like RCA in Nashville. Rather than digital technology (with loops and pre-produced instrumentation), I love live tracking and analog technology.

Johnny or June ?
~ Johnny has been a huge influence on my music. My mom took me to Sun Records when I was 11 and I haven’t stopped singing “Folsom Prison Blues” since.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I don’t get too nervous before taking the stage. I always do vocal warmups and listen to some jams on the way to the gig.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ The most memorable moment for me was when I first heard my single, “Found Her Freedom,” on the radio. I was at a station in Dickson, Tennessee doing my first LIVE interview. I was on the air for almost an hour. During that hour, we talked, I performed live, and then the DJ played tracks from other artists in between. He played “It Must Be Love” (Don Williams) and immediately followed with my song, “Found Her Freedom.” Tears filled my eyes; it was hard to hold back. To hear a song I had grown up listening to and then to hear my song directly after was the most amazing experience.
