Why country music ?
~ In country music there is always space for a story to unfold. It’s less about modern influence and more about honest and raw lyrics that represent life in all it’s facets.

If everything and anything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people do you think should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ I would love to see Johnny Cash and Patti Griffin unite on stage. I get chills just thinking about it.

What song (that you’ve recorded) means the most to you and why?
~ Nobody Makes it Alone. It’s a medley of pain and hope… the space we all live in every single day… every time I listen to it… I smile because it nudges and gently reminds me of truth.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ I actually had the privilege of writing with my bucket list co-writer several years ago. Lori Mckenna. I’m not sure anyone could top that experience.

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I’m overly shy and introverted. And my closet is an absolute disaster 😉

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ I don’t think I can pick just one. haha. I’m honestly tired of songs about pickup trucks and tan lines. We’ve heard it all before. It’s time the men of country music wrote something new… something surprising and revolutionary. They can do it… I know it’s in them.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well).
~ I’d love to hear interviewers ask less about what/who we are wearing.. and more about what we as women are doing to change the way the world spins. There is so much more to us than clothes and shoes and how we are seen on a stage… what goes on off the stage… that’s the REAL story and the one we want most reflected in the music we make.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (we are more interested in the facilities than the technique)
~ Vibe. It’s all about vibe. I prefer it dark with cushy couches and a nonstop flow of coffee and bourbon.

Johnny or June? (and tell us the reason behind your choice.)
~ Such an unfair question!! If I had to choose I would say Johnny. His complexity captivated me. His grit and resolve was honestly just so very inspirational. I loved the way he took his own road.. his own voice was always louder than those that surrounded him. He didn’t run from his own darkness. Authentic. That was Johnny Cash.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I get SO nervous. That will never go away. I think because I am always leaning into ways I can connect with the audience… always wondering who is out there and what they need from me that night. I take it very seriously, hoping that I can give them an experience that leaves them different. No rituals really, just a lot of pacing back and forth.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ Probably the day the first record label offering me a record deal suddenly shut down. Literally days before the final contract was supposed to be in my hand. It was then I realized no matter how hard I tried, 99.9% of the business was out of my control. All I could do was be me and write the music I am meant to write… if the rest shakes out… GREAT… if not… I will survive that too. It taught me to never let outside forces shake my confidence or belief in what I knew my path was supposed to look like.
