Why country music ?
~ It’s honest. It’s melodic. It’s happy and hurtful all at the same time. From the moment I heard country music I’ve felt every emotion of it.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ I want to sing with Celine Dion! I would bring my country power and she would bring her goddess-like voice. I’d probably die of happiness before we even ended the song! Second person would be Elvis. He’s such a legend in so many ways.

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ Such a tough question because they are all so special to me, but if I HAD to choose I would go with my song “Pride of America.” That one song has opened up countless doors for me in my career from singing on the Opry stage, National TV performances, and overseas to 13 countries to sing for our troops.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Brandi Carlile and Holly Williams. They have a rootsy sound that I admire and crave. I love the way they tell a story!

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I am the 6th leading scorer in the state of MA in basketball. I committed to a full scholarship to Boston College at the age of 15, and I’m one of a few people in the country who has received “Gatorade Player of the Year” two years in a row (Lebron James being the other!)

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ Putting me on the spot!! Probably “Summer Nights” by Rascal Flatts. They play that songs all the time, no matter the season and it came out so long ago! I’d rather hear a dozen other Rascal Flatts songs instead.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ I wish they asked more about the charities that I love. And how those charities fill my heart up every time I work with them.
Songs of Love is the major charity I work with. It’s an incredible organization where artists like myself write personalized songs for kids with serious illness. I’ve been writing songs for them since 2010!

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ Not too big and not too small. I’ve recorded in big ones in Nashville and I recorded my full length record Let Love In in a home studio. So something in the middle of that size wise. When it comes to the professional equipment, I leave that to the professionals!

Johnny or June ?
~ You can’t have one without the other for the love story. For the songs, definitely Johnny.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I don’t get nervous anymore unless my voice isn’t in tip top health, or I don’t know the words to a new song!! I drink a ton of hot decaf tea with honey. And most times I end up printing out the lyrics and taping them to the bottom of the stage.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ Singing at the Opry because it’s the greatest honor in the world!
