Exclusive Interview with Stephanie Owens

Stephanie Owens isn’t new to performing on stage, her first Gig was only at the age of 7! In 2014 Stephanie moved from the town of Lynchburg, Virginia to Nashville with the goal of making a name for herself as a country recording artist. Does it work? Definitely! She made her debut on National Television, had her Single highlighted on CMT and even Netflix offered her a movie role (yes that’s right, Stephanie played a role in the movie “Finding Faith”). About Stephanie Owens

  • Interview Published: August 23, 2019

  • Lynchburg, Virginia (now in Nashville)

Why country music ?
~ I love that country music is built around storytelling; songs about real life can impact people on a more personal level and can transcend time, and I am an artist that is passionate about making an impact through my story.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Elvis and Dolly Parton!

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ Little Girl in the Mirror means the most to me because this song has given me a platform to talk about my former eating disorder and help encourage others as they navigate their own body image struggles.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Chris DeStefano

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I am an introvert at heart. Anyone who has seen me perform or who knows me generally in person knows that I have a very bubbly and energetic personality and that I am very comfortable talking to complete strangers, but I need alone time (either totally by myself or with my husband) to actually refuel and relax.

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ I would probably have to say “Dirt” by Florida Georgia Line. From a songwriting standpoint, the melody is way too repetitive for me. “It” is rhymed with “it” throughout the verses, and “on” is rhymed with “on” throughout the choruses. So I just don’t think it’s a very well-written song!

The song that should be banned from the radio, one more time!

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would?
~ I wish more interviewers would ask me about how I take care of my voice/vocal health practices! I have a set of vocal exercises that I do every morning that take about 20 minutes. The voice is a muscle, so it needs to be “worked out” just like the other muscles in our bodies! I drink a lot of water every day, and water is actually the only thing I ever drink! Then, every night before I go to bed, I drink a couple big glasses of water and then take a spoonful of natural honey. I find this hydrates and sooths my voice overnight (even though I wakeup and have to use the bathroom lol)!

Describe the ultimate recording studio
~ For me, great recording studios have an atmosphere that makes recording there an amazing experience (aside from all of the technical recording gear). I’m all about a studio with a lot of character to help me feel a vibe – vintage glam couches and furniture, lots of lighting, and bold colors help me feel in the showtime zone!

Johnny or June ?
~ Johnny – purely because he is such a country music icon that made such as stamp on music history!

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ Absolutely! Praying before performing always helps calm and focus me. I know the Lord has given me these talents and that He provides all opportunities, so it helps me to dedicate the performance to Him and pray that He uses it to inspire and impact people. If I don’t focus like this, I become waaaaay too concerned about what other people think about me.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ So far, the most memorable day of my musical career was having my music video added to CMT.com. I grew up watching CMT and dreaming about one day making my own music video!
