Exclusive Interview with Hicks
Why country music ?
~ I grew up listening to Johnny Cash and Jim Reeves and a lot of rock. But there was always something special with those country songs. I didn't grew tired of them as I did with many of the rock songs. They stuck more in my heart and head. And when I write songs these days no matter what genre it is, there's always a country vibe to my songs. Country music is in my heart simple as that...
If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Patsy Cline and Vince Gill I just have a feeling that their voices would sound amazing together...
What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ It was my first single and I released it on my own label. It was that song that started this whole wonderful crazy ride for me. And it is a song to my ma. My way of saying thank you for keeping the family together and just being an awesome mum. Me and my brothers we travel the world in our jobs. But we always meet up in Mamas Kitchen.
"We always come back to Mamas Kitchen
Swoppin' lines laughin' bitchin'
Catchin' up what goes on in our lifes
Plenty of love in Mamas Kitchen
Ice cold beer and deep fried chicken
Southern food for body heart soul and mind
In Mamas Kitchen"
Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Eric Church and Jeffrey Steele and I wouldn't mind if John Rich was in on a corner.
Whisky wine beer or water?
~ Hands down BEEEEEEEEER!!!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
~ I love to go to the gym. I used to compete as a bodybuilder back in the day ... I'm not that big today as I was back then but I still love to train hard and being in shape.
What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and...you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ Why do you go to a homeopath when your sick and not a regular doctor? I believe that homeopathy is way more superior when it comes to get the body back into balance. There are no side effects to homeopathic remedies and it helps the body to start the healing. It builds up don't break down.
Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ Blowout Studios here in Sweden. It's where I record my songs. Erik
Martensson (the owner and producer) is just an amazing guy to work with.
It doesn't look much compared to the million dollar studios but the
sound is unbelievable. And it's so laid back, Erik is the easiest guy
to work with. Not to mention his extreme talent as a producer,
songwriter and player. He always creates a fun relaxed atmosphere... It
sits just by a park and outside there's a bbq so it's nice to take
break for some steaks and beers at every session.
Johnny or June ?
~ Johnny. I think I can relate to a lot of stuff that he went through. I
love that he walked his own way. Not always political correct
and walking against the grain. That takes a lot of guts. We need a
little more of that these days. People who dare to be who they are. And
follow what's in their heart. Listen to that small inner voice.
Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any
"rituals" to calm you nerves.
~ I don't get nervous... But I get very psyched... You know playing live
is one the most fun things you can do on this planet. So I'm just like
HELL YEAH come on let's go crazy...
What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ Winning "Best European Country Music Act" at British CMA in London.
I can't describe the feeling... honor, pride, joy and love all good
feelings rolled into one. Totally unbelievable... And it just proved to
me that if you do what's in your heart and follow your dream no matter
what any body else thinks. Magic will happen.
