Exclusive Interview with Lindsay O’Mahony from Honey Ryder

Honey Ryder

About Honey Ryder

Why country music ?
~ We don’t make a conscious decision to sound any particular way, we just write stuff we enjoy playing and hope that others will like it too….our sound has kind of evolved over the past few years. I think I would describe our sound as pop music with strong country, rock and folk influence. My parents played a lot of country music to me when I was growing up though so I think I naturally swing towards that genre.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ I’d actually love to hear Elvis and Dolly sing together! What an unstoppable duo that would be….

How would you like to spend a day with each other when you were not allowed to make music or to talk about music?
~ Then I reckon we’d probably watch/listen to other bands instead! But if we’re not allowed to do that I reckon spending a day with the lads would definitely involve eating and drinking….and getting immersed in a cracking boxset like Breaking Bad…..

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ I’d love Ed Sheeran to write one for us.

Whisky wine beer or …?
~ Jack Daniels.

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ Errrr….that’s a bit harsh but maybe Billy Ray Cyrus’s ‘Achey Breaky Heart.’!!

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ I wish they’d ask me why I have a tiny hole in my forehead because I’d tell them the dismal truth that I accidentally stabbed my forehead with a newly sharpened pencil when I was 8. True dat.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ The ultimate recording studio would have to be by the beach….with a swimming pool, table tennis, table football and Jack Daniels on tap….along with a top chef like Gordon Ramsey furnishing us with tasty bites all day…..nice

Johnny or June ?
~ I’d take Johnny – mainly because I just love the tone of his voice and his life story

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I used to suffer badly with nerves but the more you gig the more manageable your nerves become…..I still like to run through a track backstage with the boys beforehand and a couple of slurps of wine tends to calm the nerves a little!

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ I really can’t decide which is the most memorable day as there have been so many – playing The Royal Albert Hall is up there….along with the first time we got played on National Radio….to performing live on Bob Harris Country on Radio 2 here in the UK….the journey has been amazing so far – long may it continue!
