Why country music ?
~ As a little girl, I was introduced to what was then labeled as “New Country”. It was a random chance channel on TV called CMT, we only had it for like a month. Until then the only country music I had been introduced to was country western, like Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves and Hank Williams. This “New Country” mixture that was mainstream country at the time spoke to me like nothing else. The storytelling and the idealism that this genre entailed captivated me when I was 12 and it never left my heart.

Is it hard to prove yourself as a country singer in the States when you’re from Danish origin?
~ I thought it would be. But it has turned out to be an asset. Or maybe I am turning it into an asset, I’m not sure. To me it has been that extra special thing that makes people go “Oh, and she’s from Denmark?” and maybe pay more attention. I think it has to do with the way you market it, and I am choosing to make it something that helps set me apart. Something I am very proud of.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Myself and Billy Currington! – I know, I half expected myself to dig up Patsy or Hank, but in my opinion that man has the best voice in country music ever and I’m not going to pass up my own chance to sing with him in this fictitious duet! Haha.

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ Fallen Angels Don’t Fly. This song is one that I go back to time and time again. When I first started writing it, I was feeling beaten down and heartbroken. But as I was writing it, I realized it’s not me to stay down. So the song evolved into a ballad about giving yourself permission and time to just cry and be sad – and then pick yourself back up. Stronger and wiser and better for it. So every time I feel defeated I can listen to or sing this song and instantly know where my strength lies.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Willie Nelson. What a legendary songwriter. His style is so different than mine, so simple and true. I would adore singing a song of his written for me! Talk about a dream come true.

Whisky wine beer or water?
~ I’ve gotta go with whiskey, even though I don’t drink. It’s just so poetically perfect in a country song – especially if drank out of a mason jar.

If you could turn back time to make only one change, what would you change?
~ I am mainly of the mind that if I learned something valuable from it, it’s worth even the hardest learned lessons in life. And I should know, with some of the struggles I’ve had. To say I have no regrets would not be entirely true, there are always things I could have done differently. But I don’t think I would go back and change anything I did, if it meant risking where and who I am today. If I could change one thing (that would in any case be beyond my control) I would have kept Eva Cassidy alive to continuously inspire the world with her beautiful voice. I can’t see how the world could in any way be better without it.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ On the Wolf (the country music channel here in Seattle) they always ask the artists they interview: “What’s in a can of whoop-ass?” Dolly Parton answered: “Me!” with a little giggle. So I wish someone would ask me that question and my answer would be: “Dolly Parton”.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ There’s got to be couches. Lots and lots of couches. And good coffee. And a ton of fabulous musicians giving their input on how my songs should be shaping up. And it’s got to be warm, being cold just eats away creativity. Other than that, I am more into who I’m working with than what equipment I am working on.

Johnny or June ?
~ June. ‘Cause she stood her ground and got divorced in a time where women just didn’t do that. And she always seemed to hold her own and make the most of her talents.

What are your top favorite 3 country songs of all time
~ My favorites change a lot, so this is a hard one. But these are a few that really influenced me, so they will always be up there:
Wild One by Faith Hill. This was the song that got me into country music in the first place.
Calling Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks. I wish I had written this song it’s just perfect.
Ode To Billy Joe by Bobbie Gentry. This inspired a lot of my music today.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ It’s hard to choose. So much has happened in this last year that I can’t even really pinpoint the major moments for me yet. I will mention the day my Kickstarter campaign ended (http://kck.st/qZ7Pnn). I was on stage when the deadline came and went and I ended at 202% of my targeted goal. This was enough to pay for almost all of my recordings. The reason I am mentioning this day, is because I really turned a corner that day in regards to asking for and receiving help. I have never felt such appreciation and gratitude. And at the end of the show I was asked for my first encore.
