Exclusive Interview with Julie C Myers

Julie C Myers

About Julie C Myers

Why country music ?
~ I was born and raised in Memphis TN…and being from the south it was probably more natural for me to gravitate towards Country, Blues, and Southern Rock. I think you’ll hear all those influences in my Album.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Oh I don’t know. Let’s say Johnny Cash with someone like Sheryl Crowe? There would be many possibilities there.. but someone a little eclectic with someone old school Classic Country would be fun in any case.

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ I personally think Baby Blue is that song for me. I’ve been that girl. I’ve been the one who’s been hurt in love one time too many and needed someone to push me to try again and find that perfect person meant for me. I know this would have been a hit in my eyes during those years of my life. I also like that Bill Henderson of the band Chiliwack, the song writer, worked with me on it and was cool with me writing the little rap over top of the guitar interlude. It meant a lot to me..

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ I’d love for Bonnie Raitt to write something for me to sing. Something that’s Bluesy and a little Country… and then I’d like for her to accompany me on her guitar and sing a harmon part. THAT would be stellar!

Whisky wine beer or water?
~ Wine in most cases but it depends on the food being served. I’m not a heavy drinker for just the sake of drinking…although I DO enjoy a glass of dry wine almost any time. Pizza or Mexican food almost always demands a light beer… and then there’s the odd hot summer evening where a Gin and Tonic is very refreshing.

Give us one country song you never want to hear on the radio anymore and tell us why.
~ You can probably guess why…but I really can’t stand the song, “I’m not Lisa..” by Jessie Colter …LOL. It was popular when I was just a toddler and I learned to just HATE it…because my older brothers would taunt me with it. It was so bad it tainted the whole genre of Country music for me for a while! There’s probably nothing wrong with it but my personal perception of it.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ Is there anything musically you wish you would have done differently? My answer would be that I tried to prepare myself for a life on stage as an entertainer and trained in several forms of dance, gymnastics, and voice…. BUT I never found the time to study a musical instrument beyond my voice. I still may have to do that…. I know I have a great desire.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ I recorded my last Album at The Rukkus Room Studios in Nashville and I feel like I’ve had a taste of the best. I’d wouldn’t mind recording in Muscle Shoals some day… but don’t ask me too much about that.

Johnny or June ?
~ Johnny. I was never the biggest fan of June Carter Cash. No particular reason why but it probably has a lot to do with the fact that I’m so much more familiar with Johnny’s work than hers. I do like Johnny’s earthy style. It was honest and passionate on some level. I can identify with that.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm your nerves?
~ I most certainly am nervous. I’m nervous the band will mess up, I’ll mess up, or there’ll be some major malfunction. I microphone battery going dead… an LED Screen blowing some connection.. anything! I like a tightly choreographed show and a LOT of things can mess with that. I usually pray, and often get the band in a prayer circle to unite our hearts and minds. After that, a shot of Tequila and I’m good to go.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ I hope it hasn’t happened yet… BUT singing and being backed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra was certainly a highlight. It was stressful in some ways but I’m still hoping to do that kind of thing again… and maybe next time singing songs of my own with a stage set of my design.
