Why country music ?
~ Country music was my first musical love and country Radio provided the background soundtrack to my childhood, growing up on a small farm in Texas.
If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Hmmm, good question.... Depends which topic we are talking about. Of course, naturally, MY ultimate country duet would be myself and one of my idols, George Strait, Merle Haggard or Waylon Jennings.
What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ Daddy's Dream - it was the first song I wrote and it brings me back to my roots every time I sing it. It is also a favorite of mine because it is about fathers. Most nights when I sing it, I can see it's effect on people who are either fathers, have a close relationship with their father or have recently lost their father.
Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ I love a strong melody and I try to keep a positive message in every song I sing, so I guess someone who enjoys a strong melody and can appreciate a positive message. I HAVE heard that George Strait looks for a strong melody when he's choosing songs.......
Whisky wine beer or water?
~ Part of my job playing in the honkytonks is to sell alcohol. So, I'm gonna have to go with ... All of the above. :-) my wife would probably like me to add Vodka to the list though
What do you like to do in your spare time?
~ Spare time, what's that? Ha ha, whenever I need a break from music, I usually ask for guidance to the higher power on what I'm supposed to be doing... It's usually doing something with my wife. We do enjoy travelling, which in this industry is definitely a plus, and we have two dogs that we enjoy spending time with.
What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and...you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ Q: I love your music so much! How can I help you achieve your goal? A: Let me make a list.
Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ I'm a retro kind of guy and I like older stuff. My ultimate recording studio would be close to a rural environment, in a building that was very old and just happens to be well built for sound, with lots of history. I love it when I go into a place and hear about all the legends that have played there before.
Johnny or June ?
~ I don't believe there would have been a Johnny without a June. Life is so crazy, but I think Johnny might have fallen off the wagon a long time ago without her help.
Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any "rituals" to calm you nerves.
~ Every once in a while I get nervous... I pray and take several deep breaths before setting foot on stage.
What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ When I was in the army, I played with a group called "Harmony In Motion" at the Texas Motor Speedway in Denton. It was amazing, there were so many people there! My Father and I went out for drinks after the show and I got an Article 15 for hanging out with my dad and not with the music group. Totally ok with me though... Life is not guaranteed
