Why country music ?
~ I love the stories. My favorite era that I liked to listen too ranges from the 70’s-90’s. They were real songs that were not trying to fit a fad or marketing scheme; just true. .
If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Everyone laughs when I say this, & I don’t know why, but Gretchen Wilson. I think our voices fit very well together & would create something great. Secondly, Patsy Cline because I would become a legend overnight 😉
What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ I would say Wheels Keep Turning. All the songs I write are personal, but this one is an actual true story down to every line. It’s recorded with only with my voice & a piano; very haunting.
What song or recording artists, as a teenager, do you hate to admit (now) that you actually liked?
~ I went through a hardcore rap phase when I was age 15-16 so, about 95% of that nonsense haha.
Whisky wine beer or water?
~ I am a beer man, but I like nipping on Crown Royal as well.
If you could turn back time to make only one change, what would you change?
~ I would change my life style in college. I was a little reckless.
What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ I wish they would ask about my college coaching career more often. I gave up a great career opportunity & something I’ve had a life-long passion for to give music a shot. I don’t know what they would ask, but I would give them a brief answer then move on. I really enjoyed that part of my life even though it was short lived.
Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves .
~ I do not, the more people the better the show. I do have one ritual though: I take one shot of crown (straight) right before I go on stage.
Johnny or June ?
~ Johnny. He believed in what he was doing & went after it, all in.
Give us your top 3 country songs ever.
~ That’s just too hard of a question. There are too many great songs past & present to pick only three, or five, or twenty for that matter. I like songs that are real & that I can relate to.
I will tell you my favorite artist of all time is Ronnie Milsap, hands down
What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ I was playing a show in San Antonio at Mi Casa Tamales & there were 4,000 (give or take) people in attendance. It was pouring rain & not a soul moved from their reserved spot in the mud. I was opening for Kevin Fowler & after every song we did the whole crowd just erupted. It gave me reassurance of what can become & the decision I made leaving a career 2 years prior.
