About Tommy Loose

  • Interview date: July 5, 2017

  • Country: UK (Wisbech)

  • Gary Trueman for Photos.
Why country music ?
~ I’ve always felt it’s a very honest genre and comes from a very personal place. Usually based on real life experiences and helps me to get things off my chest if I need to

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ ‘Nest’ from my new album means a lot to me. I wrote it about my daughter whilst I was away for 2 months in Hong Kong. We Facetimed every few days and I gradually realised how quickly she was growing up, so I used it as inspiration. That song was the result!

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Simon Cowell

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I’m a Grade 8 High Honours Tuba player.

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus. He’s gotta be the smarmiest guy out there. Maybe I wouldn’t dislike it so much if I hadn’t watched the video …

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ No-one ever asks me about the time I once played football for my school team and scored twice. Once with my head. Then I got substituted at half time. It was traumatic. But Glorious too.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ Anywhere with loads of nice guitars for me to play with varying numbers of strings. And a mic to record stuff with (I have no interest in the recording part of anything, it bores me to tears. To me, a mic is either grey or black, that’s where my knowledge stops. I pay my brother to do the recording, that’s his bag!)

Johnny or June ?
~ Johnny – because he’s Johnny.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I recently did a TV feature which I was a little nervous about, but once I got chatting and found they had the same sense of humour as me, it was all good. Gigwise, I don’t find I get too nervous now, but I guess after 23 years I’ve gotten good at hiding it! I usually take a few Vocalzone tablets, do some pressups and breath deeply. And recite the Ezekiel speech from Pulp fiction.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ Supporting Cara Dillon was amazing. A sold out show in a huge theatre in England, with no-one there for me at all. I had to try win over an entirely new audience.
