Exclusive Interview with Nathan King

About Nathan King

Why country music ?
~ I’m a fan of all styles of music. I’ve done the rock thing, the metal thing… and I just feel at home doing country music. I grew up in West Virginia – and it just reflects on the world I know. Small towns, good people, faith in God… Having fun riding, shooting guns, where everyone knows you.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Anything Carrie Underwood is golden – she has the sass, yet the sensitivity, and puts all her emotions in her performance… selfishly I think i’d like to do a duet with her.

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ It is a song that talks about the pains of life, the hurt, the heart ache… the scars…. but everything you go through… the pain will cease… the nightmares will fade… and the scars will heal. I am a Christian, and a suicide attempt survivor… which is part of my testimony… and as soon as you ‘Let it go’ (cue song from frozen) – you can move on… and grow into the wonderful human being you were meant to be. It really is THAT simple.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ For me? thats a hard choice… there are too many amazing songwriters out there to pick from…. who I would like to sing a song ABOUT me? Taylor Swift. Because that would mean we dated for a short period of time, and she’s a total babe haha.

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I make my own cheese. Currently aging a freshly waxed Stout blend.

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ I’d say ‘take your time’ by Sam Hunt… and realistically its because, even though he is “country” – I don’t consider him to be Country. Are his songs great? absolutely…. but they’re more pop/r&b than country, and I’m slightly confused as to why he’s constantly on country radio. Like I said, I’ll never discredit him, he’s great.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ I’m an open book, so any questions that would be asked I answer freely – personal, or professional. BUT as a single man, in the music industry – I’m never asked about my love interests, or what I’m looking for. I am an old fashioned romantic.. I like having someone to spoil. Someone to share deep conversation with. Someone that makes me feel safe, and that I can do the same for her… a God-fearing woman of faith, who is supportive of the active music lifestyle… someone who I can look at and fall in love with all over again every single day. Physical attraction is important, and anyone who says otherwise is lying (just everyone has their own perception of beauty) – but the important part is Love, Trust, Patience (can’t stress that one enough), and being able to act like you’re little kids again… the “middle school crush” – where you’re silly, and just goofing off… but when the need is called for to be serious, you can be as well. Like I said, I’m an old-fashioned romantic, and still waiting for my Juliet…. minus killing herself.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ Honestly, I would take comfort over expensive equipment any day of the week. I recorded my studio in Nashville Tennessee – with friends of mine… and they didnt have a “huge” studio – but was more a room with the mixing board, a computer… a separate room for vocals…. a comfortable couch, and a great environment. Being able to loosen up, and ‘relax’ – is MUCH more important in my opinion , than having a 20 foot mixing board with a million dollars worth of studio effects and processors. Sure the equipment helps, but if it adds pressure – then is it really worth it?

Johnny or June ?
~ Johnny. He’s the man – a staple in country music and entertainment. He wasn’t perfect, and never claimed to be. He simply was.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I am not. I used to be extremely shy and have severe stage freight… and one day I just started letting loose, and being myself…. and the rest is histroy.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ I’ve played big shows for 30k people… and I’ve played small shows…. but my most memorable was in my “Christian Metal” time – and I was playing a small venue, with about 30 people in attendance (minus the other bands and staff) – and I was speaking to someone after our performance, and I gave my testimony mid-set – and a young lady (who will remain nameless for privacy) approached me after the show, claiming she was planning on killing herself… I allowed Christ to speak through me, and talk to her… pray with her… and changed her mind. I didnt know all of the details until on the way home… I was in the passenger seat, while my drummer was driving… everyone else was sleeping (we had a few hours drive to our next destination) – and I got a text message from her telling me I stopped her from taking her life…. I just started bawling my eyes out, waking everyone… To this day she is a good friend of mine, and we check up on each other from time to time… but to be able to say I was used to change someones life – it doesn’t matter how “famous” I get – that will be a highlight any time it happens.
