About Rick Monroe

  • Interview date: May 6, 2017

  • Country: USA (Nashville, Tennessee)

  • Gregg Roth for Photos.

Why country music ?
~ It speaks to the truth of the human condition more than any other genre. It is a place that the gritty storytellers can thrive not just a bunch of esoteric metaphors strung together with a good beat.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Pink and Johnny Cash!

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ They all have a place in my heart, kinda like children. The level of which one means the most changes with time. Right now my favorite song is called “You Tempt Me” which I have not recorded, yet! As for recorded “Gypsy Soul” and “Rage On” means a lot to me right now.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Jim Croce

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ I was expelled from the Florida school system for a year 🙂

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ I’ll pass on that one, it takes so much to get to radio that I respect everyone who gets there. So more power to them.

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ Do you need another cup of coffee and my answer is YES 🙂

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ We did the last EP at Sound Emporium and I think it’s the oldest commercial studio still active in Nashville There is also Sony Tree in Nashville, Paramount studios and the Capitol studios in LA all have great history and vibes!

Johnny or June ?
~ Johnny, he’s Johnny Cash… need I say more?

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ Nope, I’m more nervous if there aren’t gonna be enough people there.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ Actually every time I step on to a stage it becomes a Memorable one. There’s always something special about a live performance.
