About Roger Knott

  • Interview date: July 13, 2011

Why country music ?
~ Because it’s the one genre where the song form is totally respected, the playing is there to support the song and the words are allowed to be clearly understood.  To this end, the musicians in Nashville are not tempted to flaunt their virtuosity but have learned to enhance without dominating, to their credit and the song’s benefit.

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included) , which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ Hank Williams and Nanci Griffith.

What song you ever recorded means the most to you and why?
~ “Make Your Way In The World” because it’s about my daughter.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Ron Sexsmith.

Whisky wine beer or water?
~ All of them but not necessarily on the same evening.

What is the question interviewers never asked you while you were always hoping they would. (and give us your answer)?
~ Q: “What’s so special about music that you want to make it?”
A: “Those of us who are able to sing, play and write songs are among the most privileged elite of people. Music can reflect the greatest experiences in life, from the deepest melancholy to the highest joy and can do it in a beautifully artistic and expressive way that can move an audience. I strive to do that”.

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ Somewhere you’re not aware of the clock ticking, where there’s beautiful countryside to step into just outside the door, where you can take all the time you need to be creative, and where you feel comfortable, content and right at home. Luckily, I’ve found such a studio in TJTunes, Mt. Juliet, a few miles out from Nashville, TN.

Johnny or June ?
~ Johnny.

Give us your top 3 country songs ever.
~ “I Can’t Help It If I’m Still In Love With You” by Hank Williams
“Ring Of Fire” by Johnny Cash
“I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt

We love to bring our readers exclusive scoops, so what would you like to share with our readers ?
~ I’d be happy to conduct a personal dialogue on my music and the Country scene in general with your readers.
