Why country music ?
~ As a child, country music spoke to me. It was storytelling put to music. As a singer, I see myself as a storyteller, and I love music that is conversational in its delivery. It can go straight to the heart!

If everything would be possible (waking the dead included), which two people should sing the ultimate country duet?
~ I think it has already been done – Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. If you mean a duet that hasn’t been done, then I would love to hear Patsy Cline and Vince Gill – two of the greatest voices ever!

What song (that you’ve recorded) means the most to you and why?
~ I have a special place in my heart for the song, “Tumbleweed” which was my first Top 10 record and is also on my new CD, Second Bloom – The Hits Re-Imagined. Melodically and lyrically the song is exquisite. The melody carries the emotion of the song just as much as the lyrics. I love the poignant longing in the song. It always feels fresh and new each time I sing it.

Who would you like to write a song for you?
~ Bobby Braddock is one of my favorite writers and has become a friend through the years. He wrote, “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “Golden Rings,” “Time Marches On,” and so many more! I would love for him to write a song for me!

What is the one thing that readers/fans would be surprised to know about you?
~ Some fans and readers may be surprised to know that I am a certified Life and Career Coach and have been coaching clients for about 18 years now. People work with a coach to help them move through some kind of change in their work and/or personal life with clarity and grace.

Give us one country song you never want to hear on radio anymore and tell us why.
~ I wouldn’t want to call out one particular song in respect for the artist and songwriters. But in general, I’m weary of drinking songs and songs about picking up girls at a bar…

What is the question interviewers never seem to ask you and…you wish they would? (Please provide your answer as well.)
~ I think you just asked it! There’s not one particular question that interviewers never ask. I often wish there was more time to be able to talk more in-depth about each song on a new CD and be able to get more into the ‘why’ questions. I’m a philosopher at heart and love to ponder over all kinds of things in life. Music is a wonderful, creative place to explore the ‘whys’ of life!

Describe the ultimate recording studio (not the technique but the facilities)
~ I record in the ultimate studio for me! It is comfortable, home-like. It has a window looking out into nature with lots of light filling the room. I sing on an incredible vocal mic, a Sony C-800, which I love because it is so open on the top-end of the voice. It’s very clear, and I feel that it captures my voice realistically.

Johnny or June ?
~ Both. I can’t choose between them. They were both incredibly talented and together they created magic.

Are you still nervous before going on stage and if so, do you use any “rituals” to calm you nerves.
~ I rarely get nervous but always feel an excitement before going on stage. My practice is to bring myself as fully as possible into this moment and allow whatever I’m feeling to just be what it is. I pay attention to my breathing to be sure I’m breathing deeply. Shallow breathing is a sign of nerves and breathing more deeply and slowly is calming.

What was the most memorable day in your musical career and tell us why.
~ Performing on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand was a real high-point in my career! I sang “Nobody” on the show. I had dreamed of being on that show since I was 3 years old! Dick Clark was so nice to me, even coming to my dressing room to meet and talk with me before we were on camera. He is the only TV host who ever did that! He helped so many aspiring artists through the decades, and he is greatly missed!
